Page 3 of 5 This is also true of the Wilson Yards Development, the largest single economic development package in the history of the 46th Ward. This development not only has the potential to provide hundreds of 46th Ward residents with gainful employment, but will also provide new senior and rental housing joined with the largest financial investment that the Target stores have previously made in Chicago. It will also provide much needed parking and infrastructure work and it will do all this while being one of the most environmentally friendly developments in city history. Beyond existing requirements, the square footage of the green roofs exceeds most city-sponsored developments and the rental buildings will be equipped with a built-in recycling process for refuse. Coupled with this development is the creation of a campus park at Stewart school which is turning 100 years old in 2007, and major street improvements for Broadway. The CTA has the Wilson El Station under design for a new station and extensive track work, and Truman College has plans to build its own student center and parking garage. |
