Ruth Shriman House

Located at 4040 North Sheridan Road, Ruth Shriman House opened in February 1999.  Alderman Shiller advocated strongly for this new construction of 83 apartments which serves senior citizens whose access to affordable housing was jeopardized by gentrification in the Lakeview and Uptown communities.

The chief neighborhood partner, the Jane Addams Senior Caucus, mobilized local seniors to advance this project (they even enrolled in architecture classes at the University of Illinois in order to work more closely with the building's architect). The Senior Caucus has moved its offices and senior advocacy programs into the building, and area block club Buena Park Neighbors now holds their meetings there.
