Uptown Library at Buena and Sheridan
In the early 1980s a plan to build a new Uptown Library faltered as the chosen site allowed for a mere 5000 square feet of public library space.

Within three years of being alderman, Helen Shiller got the Uptown library back on track.

A new location was identified and a new prototype for Chicago's new libraries was developed.

By the early 1990s, the Buena Park community had a new public library.
