Magnolia Playlot

The Magnolia Playlot was an abandoned Park District concrete slab next to a vacant lot.  Three previous aldermen had done little or nothing to force the Park District to resurrect this area.  What's worse, is that this vacant lot and abandoned Park District park were right next to one of the community's pre-schools.

A half block from the Sunnyside Mall, the old playlot 411 emerged as a follow-up issue to the rehabilitation of the Sunnyside Mall in the early 1990s. After engaging in an additional community planning process, Alderman Shiller passed an ordinance to insure the acquisition of the adjacent vacant lot by the Park District, and got the funds for a new play lot. Fifteen years later, after additional rehabilitation, the new Broncho Billy Playlot now serves area families as well as the Stockton Pre-school.
