By now you are well aware of how the Governor's line item and reduction vetoes have impacted services for our community. If you would like to offer your opinion on any of these cuts, tell the story of how the impacted services and programs are important to you and to the community, or offer personal testimonials on how your life, your neighborhood or your clients would be affected, please join us at the North Side Town Hall Meeting on the State Budget.

Governor's Eliminations and Reductions: (all eliminations, unless specified)

    Funding for severely overcrowded schools
    Charter school startup support
    Arts in Education
    Healthy Minds, Healthy Kids expanded program
    $10 million reduction in school safety improvement block grants
    Community college grants for special needs students
    Rush Alzheimer̓s Disease Center
    $40 million reduction in payments to hospitals serving the poor and uninsured
    $50 million reduction in assistance to nursing homes
    Elimination of School Health Center funding
    Elimination of cost of doing business increases for mental health providers
    $11 million reduction to homemakers providers services to the developmentally disabled
    50% reduction in support for Autistic children
    Reduction in substance abuse and addiction service funding
    Elimination of pandemic flu preparations
    $700,000 reduction in HIV prevention services
    Elimination of added capacity for LaSalle Veterans Home
    $3.7 million reduction in Child Protection and Child Welfare funds
    Elimination of Operation CeaseFire

In addition, we will be discussing vetoes of funding for Asian Human Services, Amundsen School, Chicago House, Howard Brown Health Center, 21st Century Seniors, Old Town School of Folk Music, the Rosehill Arboretum, Ravenswood School, UPLIFT School, Vital Bridges and Uptown United.
