About this Crime: Four male offenders went to the home of a senior citizen on the 2700 block of West Berwyn, at 3:45 p.m. on October 20, 2007. The offenders told the senior citizen they worked for the Water Department and needed to gain access to the home to check the water lines. The offenders then told the victim to remove his gold chain with a medical alert device but the victim refused to do so. One of the offenders distracted the victim as the others ransacked the victim’s home.

Offenders:

  • Male, white or Hispanic, early 20’s – 30’s, 5’8” tall
  • Wearing dark clothing

Vehicle:

  • White 4-door older model SUV or mini-van

What you can do:

  • Talk to other residents in your area and advise them of this incident, particularly senior citizens who may live alone
  • Never let anyone into your home without verifying their identity. Always ask for photo identification and/or a company ID card before opening your door to anyone claiming to be from a City, County or State agency or utility company, even if you are expecting some type of service call.
  • If you still feel uncomfortable, call the City at 311 or the utility company as appropriate to verify that there is a crew working in your area.
  • Always call 911 to report any suspicious people or vehicles in your neighborhood.
  • Write down vehicle information and a physical description, including a clothing description, license number and vehicle type and color.
