Mayor Daley recently announced the Chicago Green Homes program and the Green Home Remodeling Series. The Chicago Green Homes program is a voluntary certification program which provides the tools and strategies for building homes and multi-family buildings that are energy-efficient and environmentally responsible. Using a checklist provided, the project can Imageearn point values that garner, upon review, a 1, 2, or 3 star rating. Participating may be required for builders and developers receiving City financial assistance. By enrolling in the program, your project may be eligible for the fast-track Green Permit Process.

The Green Home Remodeling Series consists of (6) guides to provide homeowners with the information and resources they need to make environmentally-conscious choices when remodeling their homes. The guides cover topics including bath and laundry, the kitchen and the building envelope, as well as painting, how to incorporate recycled materials in a project and how to hire architects and contractors.
