Via the Chicago Board of Elections The Chicago Board of Election Commissioners officially opens “grace period” registration and voting on Wednesday, January 9 to give Chicagoans (who are eligible to vote but not yet registered) one last opportunity to participate in the February 5, 2008, Presidential Primary Election. “Under this newer provision of the state Election Code, eligible voters may still register or update their records and vote, but only at Election Board headquarters,” said Chicago Election Board Chairman Langdon D. Neal. Chicago Voters who utilize the “grace period” must come to 69 W. Washington Street, Suite 600. The “grace period” closes on Tues., Jan. 22, 2008. Unlike voters who registered by the January 8 deadline, voters who update records during the “grace period” cannot vote at their polling places on Election Day or in the Early Voting program. To register to vote for the upcoming Primary Election, persons must be citizens of the United States and 18 years of age or older by February 5, 2008. When registering during the “grace period,” a person needs to show two (2) valid pieces of identification, with at least one showing the current residence address. |
