Residents of the 46th Ward already know "Everyone Can Recycle" (PDF) based on the results of the Streets & Sanitation Blue Cart program and the response to the Multi-Unit Recycling Project. The combined wards (46/47/48) results for January and February was 23% compared to the citywide average of 16%. Many multi-unit buildings have already converted to single-stream recycling.
If your building has not converted yet, the Vendor Matrix (PDF) provides recycling contact information on the waste haulers in the 46th Ward. The Multi-Unit Recycling Building Survey (PDF) also is helpful in setting up a recycling program for your building. If you want a recycling program, but just don't have the time, fill out the Survey and drop it off at the Alderman's office. We will help set up a program for you.
Do you already recycle but are looking for ways to improve your recycling rate? Here are some ideas for you:
1. Take another look at your trash - see what can be recycled with single stream or taken back to the sources (ie plastic grocery bags). 2. Educate your neighbors - talk to them when you see them, especially when they are taking out the trash. 3. Be a smart shopper - look for products with recyclable packaging or the least amount of packaging.
