As a matter of practice after instituting permit parking on any block in the 46th Ward, Ald. Shiller's office monitors parking conditions to ensure that permit parking is being used by permit holders on that block. In December 2006, Residential Permit parking zone 1130 was established on the 4400 blocks of Racine and Clifton and on the 1100 block of Sunnyside. The permit parking program on Racine and Clifton has been a great success, reserving parking between 9am and 8pm for residents of those and adjacent blocks. These blocks will remain permit parking only during hours posted. On the 1100 block of West Sunnyside, however, the street spaces are seldom used during daytime hours. For this reason, at the September 10, 2008, meeting of the City Council, Ald. Shiller introduced an ordinance to repeal permit parking on the north side of the 1100 block of W. Sunnyside. The repeal will go into effect upon passage and publication of the ordinance - most likely in mid-October. This will allow area residents and visitors to park on that block without a Residential Permit Parking sticker or guest pass. Ald. Shiller's office will continue to monitor parking trends on this and other blocks to ensure that parking is as convenient and affordable as possible for residents of the 46th Ward. |
