Page 4 of 6 I just want to point out the patterns that exist in the questions that have not been answered. Some of those questions have gone unanswered for two, three, four, even five years. I have yet to receive any information on any of the questions that I or any of my colleagues have asked with regards to the re-map. I have yet to receive answers to my and my colleagues' questions about privatization efforts, including their impact and basic information. We have been privatizing for quite a few years now, since the early 90s, and yet consistently we have asked for information and not received it. I have asked for and not received information on the Harold Washington Library maintenance contract. I can't even get the name of the contractor! I and other aldermen have been asking for information on the private towing contract which seems to be somewhat controversial, but we have received neither the original contract, nor the one that was just implemented, nor the one planned for next year. I have asked for and not received information on numerous activities over the last five years having to do with privatization, the impact on those services and the money spent by the city. I have requested and not received information on previous privatization of police custodial services and the new information on custodial services which I cannot imagine is not a concern to everyone in this office as well as throughout the police districts of the City of Chicago. To me, these are real problems, and for us to be very cavalier about the fact that this information is not readily available to any member of the legislative body is really kind of remarkable. |
