Landmarks/CHRS Layer on the Online Chicago Zoning Map
07/16/2009

Via the Department of Zoning & Land Use Planning

The Department of Zoning and Land Use Planning recently completed a GIS-compatible database that maps as a layer on the City's On-line Zoning Map all designated Chicago Landmarks and Landmark Districts; and the "red" and "orange" buildings identified in the Chicago Historic Resources Survey (CHRS).

The zoning map is accessible from the Department of Zoning and Land Use Planning's home page on the City of Chicago's website.

The new zoning map layer can be used by property owners, contractors, developers, consultants and the public to determine the location of designated landmarks and properties identified in the historic resources survey in their neighborhoods.

The historic building layers can be turned on and off by checking the boxes on the Zoning tab on the right-hand key to the map.  The map key includes links to additional information about Chicago Landmarks and the CHRS.  Only actual buildings (as opposed to bridges, monuments and other structures also included in the survey) are identified on the new zoning map layer.

There has been much interest in making this information part of the on-line zoning map, and we are pleased to now announce its availability.

Sincerely,

Patricia A. Scudiero
