Yard Waste Pick-up in Separate Collection Areas Has Shifted to Every Other Week

Now that spring is here, the City of Chicago has resumed yard waste pick-up for residents who participate in the Blue Cart Separate Collection Recycling Program.

This year participating residents will have their bagged yard waste collection shifted from weekly to every other week during the same weeks that their actual recyclables are collected.

Between April 5 and November 30, participating residents should continue to place their yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, weeds, etc.) in paper (preferred) or plastic bags and place it next to their carts.

This announcement only applies to Separate Collection Recycling participants.

If you have any questions about this change or disposing of yard waste or tree debris visit us at www.cityofchicago.org/streetsandsan or call 311.

Yard Waste Recycling Tips:

  • Yard Waste Collection will be every other week, the same week as recyclables are collected.
  • Yard Waste should be placed in paper or plastic bags. Paper or clear or translucent plastic bags are preferred.
  • Bagged Yard Waste should be placed next to carts.
  • Do not place Yard Waste inside of your carts.
