The Broadway Streetscape Has Begun!
05/17/2010

During the first week of the project, the following was done:

  • The existing 8 trees on Broadway were removed to make way for the 40 new trees that will be planted.
  • Most of the signage on the sidewalk was removed in preparation for the sidewalk, curb and gutter work that will be done.
  • The traffic signalization work began at the intersection of Sunnyside and Broadway.
  • The electrical manhole at the SW corner of Sunnyside and Broadway was serviced.
  • A new sidewalk was poured on the west side of the 4400 block of Broadway.

This week’s expected work includes:

  • A videotaping of all existing drainage structures in the construction area. This will alert the construction crew of any obstructions in sewers and/or water mains.
  • Saw cutting will be performed for curb and gutter work.
  • Saw cutting of the western sidewalks between Sunnyside and Wilson.
  • Removal of the sidewalk on the 4500 block of Broadway (west side only). The entire sidewalk will not be removed at once. This week, 6ft of the sidewalk will be removed- between the curb and the pedestrian walkway. 4ft of the sidewalk will remain open for pedestrian access.
  • Tree grates will be removed.
  • All existing light poles on the west side of Broadway between Sunnyside and Wilson will be removed.
Please keep in mind that work will be done on the west side of Broadway between Wilson and Montrose first. During this time, parking is restricted on the west side, but remains open on the east side. Parking is permitted, in the absence of construction equipment, in the evenings and on the weekends.
