Winter Overnight Parking Ban Returns for Key Arterial Streets:

The December 1st return of Chicago’s annual snow related parking restrictions is one of the few events you’ll be able to predict during a typical Chicago Winter.

The Winter overnight parking ban resumes for approximately 107 miles of city streets from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. between December 1st and April 1st - REGARDLESS OF SNOW!

Signs for this seasonal restriction are permanently posted. Ignoring them can cost the violator a $150 towing fee (minimum), a $50 ticket and a daily storage fee of $10 that will increase over time. If you regularly park on one of these designated streets during non-winter months, it's a good idea to secure a safe and legal parking spot until the restrictions expire on April 1st.

The Overnight Parking ban does not apply to any of the streets in the 46th Ward.  Download the map of overnight parking bans (.pdf) to be sure you aren't parked on a street with those restrictions.

Motorists should also pay attention to the 2-inch snow restrictions that are technically in effect all year round but realistically are only a factor during the winter months. The 2” Inch Snow Ban is not activated often, but motorists that violate it when it is active face ticketing and relocation to a nearby site. Motorists need to watch for and obey both restrictions.
